For anyone who has been on a cruise, or more pertinently, is planning one in the future, Currents Deep and Deadly by debut novelist Arleen Alleman should perhaps not be your first choice of reading material as you're lounging on the sundeck. For everyone else, this is an great read. Readers will follow level-headed scientist Darcy Farthing along for the ride as she finds herself on a month-long luxury cruise to South America that she desperately wants to escape. Why would one want to escape what most people would consider a dream vacation, you might ask. Well, you would want off the ship too if you overheard a murder for hire plot, and then the ship's crew started dropping like flies. And that's just the beginning of what happens on what starts to feel like a floating death ship.

Currents Deep and Deadly is a great novel, one that will keep you guessing until the very end. Author Arleen Alleman has done a wonderful job in creating interesting and dynamic characters that certainly feel like real people, a true test of a writer with chops in my opinion. Any reader who enjoys mysteries, action, adventure, suspense, books with a great feel for travel, or just a plain good read will love Currents Deep and Deadly. I am pleased to recommend this book, and certainly hope that the promising new novelist, Arleen Alleman, is hard at work on the next installment, as I will mightily look forward to reading it.
