Susan Lyman's storytelling is really amazing, and the illustrations by Jenne van Eeghen are spectacular. But the highlight of the book for me was, of course, the protagonist, Scrappy. His mischievous, adventure-loving personality will win you over from the very first page. I also liked how Lyman paced the narrative. The plot moves briskly. Scrappy's shenanigans make sure you won't put the book down before finishing it. There's an underlying message here about doing your favorite things with the ones you love. Lyman incorporates it subtly into the story, and that makes it all the more impactful. All in all, I'm sure families would love to read this book together and be entertained.

We meet Scrappy, a cute, curious, friendly, and adventurous small terrier who lives in a loving family. But he is obsessed with treats. After watching New York City out of the window and on TV, Scrappy decides that he absolutely must explore it on his own and hopefully find the world’s most delicious treat. The next morning, Scrappy runs away, jumps into a cab, and rides into New York City. Scrappy gets off at Grand Central, and his adventures start. But will he find the world’s most delicious treat in New York City? And more importantly, will Scrappy return home safely to his loving family?

What an exhilarating guided tour of New York City led by the fantastic tour guide Scrappy. Jenne van Eeghen’s illustrations were fabulous and made me fall in love with Scrappy at first sight. I also loved Scrappy’s adventures, mischievous antics, and the lesson he learned on his New York City tour. I appreciated the Fun Facts, the game, and the coloring page because they helped readers learn to love dogs and remember the story. But most of all, I liked the dog-loving spirit of the story that I felt in every scene. I look forward to Scrappy’s new adventures and highly recommend Susan Lyman’s Scrappy’s Search for the Sweetest Treat in New York City to parents and carers of young readers. But beware – every child will want their own Scrappy! And if you are a dog-loving adult like me, this book will delight you.
