Lauran Craig returns to Scotland to visit her grandfather, but she has not the faintest idea that life is about to take a dramatic turn when the old man dies in his sleep even before she arrives, leaving her with a substantial inheritance. While traveling to the Highlands, Lauran's car is mistaken by Major Colin MacHugh for one driven by terrorists. The major realizes his mistake and warns her to stay off the road, and later inviting her to dinner. Lauran eventually saves Colin after he is kidnapped by the terrorists, but when she returns him to his home, she is greeted with a ring. Little does she know she is the final piece in a long-ago prophecy and may just be the only hope of saving Colin from a marriage that haunts his dreams.

Deadly Prophecy by C.M. Mutch is a tale of mystery and romance with a lush and beautiful setting. Deadly Prophecy has so many surprises for readers. It is beautifully written. The prose is lyrical and it mimics the romanticism peculiar to Scottish literature. The characters are elaborately developed and readers meet Colin from the very start of the narrative as a man on his last mission. The encounter with Lauran is accidental but it binds them together. I loved the characters and the sense of mystery and suspense that permeates the story. This author has what it takes to grab the attention of the reader and to sustain it until the end. The novel is fast-paced, filled with action, and emotionally engaging.
