Destiny Nakita Arnold shares her inspiring life story with her moving memoir, Destiny Legacy: Becoming Her. Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, Destiny had far from an ideal childhood. With an emotionally unavailable young mother and an absentee father figure, Destiny had to look after herself. She never felt protected at home. Her grandmother was like her own mother. As a teenager, she started to plan her exit and saw the military as a way out. She was introduced to Upward Bound through Morris Brown College. She joined the military and got married. However, the marriage didn't last, and she had to fight for her children. Every delay and hurdle she faced in her life shaped her into the person she later became.

Destiny Legacy: Becoming Her is one of those true underdog success stories that inspire us to dream and hope in the face of adversity. Destiny Nakita Arnold had to overcome many challenges, and yet, she found the strength and courage to chart the course of her own life. I'm really glad I read her story. In this book, she reveals the pain and trauma of being raised in a dysfunctional family, as well as the emotional impact of divorce and separation on children. One of the many things that I liked about this book is the way Destiny told her story. It's intimate and personal, yet resonates with you because of the fundamentally human nature of her struggles and how she strived to find solutions to her problems with compassion and self-belief. Toward the end of the book, readers will find some motivational reflections. Highly recommended.
