Dimension Guardian: The Realm of Beasts - The Guardian Tournament is the first novel in the series by K.J. Amidon. Dalton Teban was considered one of the best Guardians of the five connected worlds with good reason. When he was forced to participate in the Guardian Tournament he wasn’t really surprised. What he didn’t know was that the Dimension Protection Council was using the bloody tournament for the five best Guardians to weed out the bad eggs among the remaining Guardians. As the top five, Hanyi, Mitoki, Keito, Eclipse, and Dalton were tasked with something impossible, and they had no option but to carry it out. They would soon realize that the Dimension Protection Council was hiding something even bigger and they were just pawns. Did they have a choice other than to obey the orders?
Complex and deliciously detailed, Dimension Guardian is an eventful introduction to what will hopefully be a long series. The background building was incredibly elaborate and so good that I was in awe of K.J. Amidon. The five realms (Beasts, Demons, Light, Darkness, and Humans) were described to perfection. The world-building was grand, and I could tell that each character was carefully crafted to serve a purpose. The novel reflected everything great about the fantasy genre. I loved the camaraderie between our five selected warriors and that each of them had a distinct personality and a different tale to tell. The pace was perfect both for the story and for character development. I was most grateful to the author for not adding too many complex names. This novel is a fantastic start to a potentially memorable series that will blow fans away with its intricacies.
