Carol Hibbs deftly combines elements of romance, suspense, and horror in Forever Ends. When Gabrielle moves to a different area with her sons, she believes it is the best thing that ever happened. It's a new start for them and a new life in a safe house. But she is so mistaken. The house is haunted and and bad things are happening to her friends. Mixed with her problems is Christina, a girl trapped in a world that isn't hers, and her feelings for Ryan, her cabin-building neighbor. Can saving Christina be the right path to end her troubles or is her life cursed? Forever Ends by Carol Hibbs is gripping, suspenseful, and filled with moments that inspire a deep sense of emotion in readers.
I love this author and the storytelling craft showcased in this novel. The reader has the feeling that something could go wrong at any moment. And, yes, a lot goes wrong and is hardly what the reader expects. The sense of mystery permeates the narrative and the reader is intrigued, always trying to guess what the problem is and where the story might go, and that makes the reader keep turning the pages. The suspenseful nature of the narrative is reinforced by the unpredictability of the plot. The characters are complex and it is interesting to watch the protagonist in her dilemma, torn between love and her mysterious world, between her need to care for others and the urge to keep them safe. Forever Ends is a gripping tale that explores the dilemma of knowing and unknowing, and the struggle to decide when one has suffered so much at the hands of a fate they can't understand.
