Free Falling is a contemporary romance novel written by Ana Simons. Brian Anderson had had enough of betrayal by the women he had fallen in love with. No amount of playing the field or maintaining a somewhat predatory mindset lessened the impact of those betrayals or the ensuing pain. It had been some years since Olivia Burke had stepped out of his life, and he had never really recovered from that loss. She had been his childhood sweetheart, and he had never quite understood what had happened to change her feelings toward him so utterly. More recently, Mary had been unfaithful to him with an older man, and his anger at her behavior was compounded by that first loss of Olivia. Brian was content with the active part he took in helping his sister raise her growing brood; he loved his nieces and nephews. Romance was not something he really had much use for, and marriage seemed a sucker’s bet at best. Then he saw Olivia again, at a wedding of all places, and everything began to change whether he wanted it to or not.
Ana Simons’ contemporary romance novel, Free Falling, follows Brian Anderson and Olivia Burke as they try to untangle their romantic history, and each strives to heal and to trust again. Simons' plot is engaging and authentic, with families, jobs and real life situations keeping the romantic elements in perspective. Her characters are credible and well-defined, especially Olivia and Brian. Free Falling is a well written story that never veers into becoming sappy or overly sentimental, and the author keeps both her readers and her characters on edge as to what will happen next. Free Falling is highly recommended.
