Getting the Most Out of Your College Experience gives students a practical map for moving through college with purpose after enrollment. Dr Chris Apoder O'Riordan-Adjah draws on his path from Ghana to American campuses, then on his work as a professor and dean, to explain how students can make school function in real life. The book follows the student’s daily reality as a degree becomes more than a set of classes. The author shows things like how course choices can affect workload, how campus employment can become early work experience, how stress can interrupt performance, and how graduation requires preparation before the final term. This is a guide for students who need college to produce a viable path into employment.
Dr Chris Apoder O'Riordan-Adjah’s Getting the Most Out of Your College Experience is such a timely and important book, showing readers a way to approach college planning with clear eyes and maturity. As a parent who has a formal education but got it so long ago that I can't even begin to comprehend what it is like now, the value to me is in many of the readiness questions, which connect family discussions with things like money planning before enrollment begins. The writing is accessible, and what the book offers can be applied immediately, such as a student visiting the advising office before selecting courses, and speaking with a professor after class when a question feels too public. For students preparing for life after high school, and the adults who care for them or are returning to school themselves, this is a must-read. Very highly recommended.
