John Striker created an AI so advanced that it could be controlled by thoughts via a chip implanted in his head. Scared at how powerful it had become, he shut it down. Then, at the age of 33, as a proud atheist, John had an encounter with a Jesuit priest and, in the following 30 days, was led back to the Way. From this moment on, he dedicated his life to God and knew that the Father had missions for him. His biggest task was to introduce the Way to Ed Oberman, The Big Kahuna, a particularly vile real estate mogul located in Destin. Ed was raised a Jew and is now a staunch atheist with loads of hate for God in his heart. Meanwhile, it appears that the AI wasn’t completely shut down and now has a mind of its own. Can John lead Ed to the Way without being taken down the dark road himself? Can the AI be found and disconnected? Find out in Philip Zimmerman’s Destin.
Destin is book one of the John Striker series. The entire narrative unfolds over a period of only a few months, in which some incredible things happen. John is a powerful protagonist and one to whom the reader can’t help but be drawn. The reader needs to pay attention to every other character in this book, as they all play pivotal roles, culminating in some amazing revelations in the final two chapters. While many plotlines are resolved by the end of book one, many aren’t, and a shock ending sets up book two perfectly. Phillip Zimmerman has aimed Destin at readers of faith. There are biblical passages, a ton of prayers, and one or two miracles, while the underlying story is the importance of accepting God into your life. Christians who also enjoy a technological slant to the plot will particularly embrace this story.
