Oscar J. Realmsworth’s Hey! God Began a Family—Not a Religion is a Christian theology book that presents creation as the Godhead’s family purpose. Realmsworth begins with the claim that the eternal Spirit became Father through the only begotten Son, placing human origin inside sonship before any created thing. From there, the book reads Adam’s creation and Christ’s obedience as one salvation account, where the First Adam enters the natural realm before the Last Adam brings humanity into the Spirit. Religion is presented as a human form that cannot replace the Father’s household. The closing argument places judgment inside correction and fire inside purification, with salvation ending in restored children who learn obedience within God’s realm. Scripture remains the basis as Realmsworth moves from origin to restoration.
Oscar J. Realmsworth’s Hey! God Began a Family—Not a Religion is a bold Christian theology book, and Realmsworth writes with the kind of conviction that makes every claim feel personal. The best part is the family language. The thief on the cross material is especially good, because paradise becomes a restored home opened by Christ. The gospel material is excellent too. Realmsworth’s insistence that the gospel is Christ himself gives the theology a firm foundation, because salvation comes as a person before it becomes teaching. I also liked the return to wheat and tares, where correction is placed inside the Father’s desire to bring His children home. There is a lot here, and it is written for readers ready to have a good, hard, faithful think. Readers who enjoy Christian theology that uses a different approach to get back to the basics, this is the book to get you there.
