Timestream by L. A. Hilden is the first installment in the Echoes of Eternity series. Set in the year 2101, the world has been devastated by a technology known as the Voice of God. Leva, Harper’s mother, vanishes into the timestream in an attempt to prevent the creation of the Voice of God. Determined to find her mother, Harper travels through time with her companion Lark from 2101 to historical times such as present-day New York, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and the In-Between. The journey takes them to the very event that changed the course of history. However, the Time Travel Bureau is dogging their every step and hunting for Harper to stop her time travels before she and Lark change everything.
L. A. Hilden created a wonderful story with believable, relatable characters. Harper is the kind of protagonist that readers root for from the very beginning. Her companion and ally, Lark, makes sure she is mentally and physically sound for every challenge that comes their way. The time travel within the story is exciting and detailed enough to allow readers to accompany Lark and Harper through time to different eras of human history. The tension created between the Time Travel Bureau and Harper makes the story entertaining and adds an element of intensity. The narrative style is perfect, the character development is well-rounded, and the pace is just right. Readers have time to appreciate each era in history before jumping to the next and living each one with Harper. Timestream is an exciting science fiction novel for fans who enjoy strong protagonists and a solid story.
