Hidden Wings (Hidden Wings #1) by Cameo Renae begins with Emma being the sole survivor of a car accident that killed her parents. Thinking that she has no family left, Emma is shocked when an aunt steps forward to take her in. Emma moves to Alaska and that is when her life takes a deadly but exciting turn.
In Hidden Wings, Cameo Renae takes you into the world of Angels, the Fallen, the Darklings, and the Mortals. Emma finds out she has an aunt in Alaska who is going to send escorts to bring Emma to live with her. Kade is one of the escorts and Emma finds herself instantly drawn to him and feels a need to be close to him. This leads to complications that Emma cannot even begin to understand. When they get to Alaska, Emma is attacked by a creature called a Darkling that was sent to kill her. Darklings are used by the Fallen to carry out their dirty work. This is just the start for Emma as she is dragged into a world that she will have to learn to understand very quickly. The copy I received also had a copy of Descent, and it was so interesting to read how it all began for Emma and Alaine.
Hidden Wings introduces you to a wide range of characters, each having their own personality and each giving the reader a reason to either hate or love them. The Darklings did haunt my dreams and I think it will be a long time before I can erase them from my mind. I stayed up late reading this as I was sucked in from page one and had to know what was happening and if everyone would be okay. There are so many twists and turns that you will not be able to put this book down.
