Herby Can Help by Kelly Gilligan is a picture book for young children. Herby, an Australian Stimson's python, was going about his day as usual when he came across a sign advertising a rodent catcher. He thought he would be perfect for the job, and it would get him away from his not-so-friendly neighbors. You see, Herby was feared, which made his living environment a little awkward and unpleasant. So as soon as Herby saw the sign, he seized the chance. He arrived at a human home and rang the bell. A man answered and screamed at the sight of Herby, which gave him a fright too. The two stared at each other. What will happen next? Will Herby find himself faced with yet another rejection because of who he is? Or will it be different this time? Find out in this book.
Herby Can Help was a pleasure to read. The storyline hooked me from the first page and kept my interest throughout. It is a simple story that will teach children many things. But most importantly, never to judge a book by its cover and to accept people no matter their differences. Children will be intrigued by the choice of characters, as they portray the message perfectly. The illustrations are adorable and really bring the book alive. So if you are looking to teach your child something important whilst keeping them entertained, then Kelly Gilligan’s book will do exactly that. Keep up the great work, Kelly. I hope to read more from you soon.
