Horror 101: The Way Forward is a collection of tales and advice from established horror writers from around the world, including Steve Rasnic Tem, Graham Masterton, Jack Ketchum, Ellen Datlow, Iain Rob Wright, Ramsey Campbell and Michael A. Arnzen. They offer personal insights to how they got started writing horror and how they established themselves over the years. With advice on everything from where to get ideas from, ghostwriting, publishing vs self publishing and other areas you can find work as a writer, this book is a great addition to any writer's bookshelf. The book also contains links to websites and associations for horror writers including the HWA - Horror Writers Association.
As a horror writer myself, I enjoyed this book immensely and even learned a few things from it. Horror 101: The Way Forward is written by pros and their ideas and history can be a great asset to new writers in the genre. I think this book is very marketable and, even if they are not a horror writer, many writers still love the genre and will enjoy reading this book. I especially loved the excerpt on zombies by Harry Shannon - Bring the Zombie to Life. I agree with his comments on how when it comes to writing zombie novels your key focus is on the humans. After all, they are who we are rooting for and they should be well developed people with whom we can empathise. I would definitely recommend this book to horror lovers everywhere.
