How to Throw a Birthday Party is the 4th book in the Novo the Space Robot book series by Charly Froh. The plot revolves around Novo finding out about birthday parties as he has never had one before. He doesn't quite know what a birthday party is and after conducting a lot of research, he starts to feel quite overwhelmed and thinks that hosting a birthday party could be an impossible task. After some thought, he gathers the determination he needs and starts to plan, breaking the tasks down into easy-to-manage steps to get it all done. The remainder of the story follows the steps to make the party happen and describes the big birthday bash itself.
I thought that How to Throw a Birthday Party by Charly Froh was an adorable book. The vibrant and fun illustrations and enhanced text fonts used throughout the story brought Novo and his adventures to life. The book has an entertaining birthday theme but also teaches readers some useful real-life skills. At first, Novo was intimidated by the idea of throwing a party but once he broke everything down into simple steps, he found it was much easier to manage. It was encouraging that he included both his alien and human friends in the party, after taking into account the location and their food preferences to make sure that everyone had a great time. I think that kids will find this an amusing bedtime story and parents will be asked to read it again and again, especially near their birthdays.
