Ever since her father’s death, Addie MacKenna had been having horrifying nightmares. That comes with the territory, but these are more than just nightmares and it’s evident from the first few pages of Ignite the Flame that Addie is more than what she seems. Her nightmares are so palpable they seem real and a fear lingers in the back of her mind that she might be going crazy. But when delicious and dark Cael Sheridan walks into her life, we learn that he’s connected to her late father in ways he doesn’t reveal right away. Susan Griscom has written a hot and steamy romance with wonderfully exciting supernatural elements to round out this tale.
Ignite the Flame is, at its heart, a romance about two people who are more similar than they imagine. Addie and Cael are cut from the same cloth which means their journey to love is as exciting and mysterious as the others involving a powerful crystal and a sacred text. Despite their supernatural abilities, which are awesome to read, Addie and Cael are very much slaves to their human emotions. Capable and strong, Cael can’t fight Addie’s innocent allure, and despite his arrogance she can’t help but want him. One of my favorite things about Susan Griscom’s fantastical romance is that no matter how much of a bad ass Addie or Cael might be, they still have the same relationship problems as the rest of the world. That feeling of unity allows the reader to jump into this world wholeheartedly and enjoy every thrilling moment of the journey to the last page.
