Incident at Aviano: The Story of a Very Brave Man is a work of fiction in the military, action, and interpersonal drama subgenres. It is best suited to the adult reading audience and was penned by author Kip Cassino. This gripping novel is based on a true story that unfolds in November 1965 at Aviano Air Base in Italy. A young pilot inadvertently activates a nuclear weapon mounted on his jet, putting the lives of thousands at risk and potentially threatening the NATO alliance. Lieutenant Colonel Dan Cassino and his team face a race against time as they try to disarm the bomb before catastrophe strikes. The novel weaves two timelines - one where the bomb is disarmed and one where it isn't - to depict the high-stakes nature of the incident and the bravery of those involved.
Author Kip Cassino's masterful storytelling brought the harrowing events of the 1965 Aviano Air Base incident to life, making it feel as if I was right there with the characters, feeling the tension and urgency of the situation. The novel masterfully blended historical events with compelling fictional elements, allowing me to immerse myself in the gripping plot and experience an intense and suspenseful ride that was genuinely unpredictable. The author's depiction of Lieutenant Colonel Dan Cassino and his team of specialists showcased their bravery, determination, and expertise in handling such a perilous situation. The dual timelines added depth to the narrative, making it thought-provoking and emotionally charged, yet it was still accessible and easy to follow. Overall, I would highly recommend Incident at Aviano as a riveting and thought-provoking novel that pays tribute to the courage and resilience of those who faced a potentially catastrophic situation.
