Short Stories I Hope You Will Enjoy is the second book in Peter Joseph Hickson's Amusing, Tragic, Educational series. It is a collection of stories about the author's experiences working in nursing and healthcare environments, primarily in Australia. Hickson delves into stories about dead body swaps, missing medication, and a manic bipolar patient giving away money at a railway station. He shares stories from his time working in a prison, handling inmates hooked on drugs, and meeting one man who actually bulldozed his own family’s house after a rough divorce. Then there’s the case of a guy who swallowed something mysterious, which just led to fights between his father and the doctors. You’ll also meet a young paramedic who tried to become a firefighter, but that story doesn’t end well. Dive in for more about managing manic patients and the strange things that happen in the hospital.

Short Stories I Hope You Will Enjoy pulls you in with tales that really make you think about how our experiences shape us and what that does to our state of mind. Sure, the book delves into some sensitive topics, but sprinkled throughout are funny moments that break the tension. Sometimes you can’t help but laugh, even at life’s weirdest turns. Peter Joseph Hickson writes with honesty; you can almost feel his personal connection in every story. He’s not here to poke fun at patients or healthcare workers. Instead, he shines a light on their struggles so you actually get what they’re going through and maybe even feel a little more for them. What sticks with you after reading is the resilience: even when things get rough, people find ways to keep going. The stories touch on heavy stuff like addiction, paranoia, and manic disorders, getting you closer to what people living with these challenges deal with every day. And it’s not just about the patients; the book celebrates the quiet, relentless work of healthcare workers too. At the end of the day, Hickson blends humor and heart, pushing us all to care a bit more and understand a bit deeper when it comes to mental health and medical issues.
