Ingefaer vod Renku: Aere Warrior by Rene Vecka introduces us to Ingefaer, a tall, red-haired ten-year-old who vows to get justice after scale-skinned monsters kill her mother and father. Her new life with her uncle Thadir is a battle of wills, especially when his drinking turns into bullying, and she has to stand up for her aunt Jasmine, using an iron fireplace poker. Everything changes when a legendary silver dragon apparition appears to her at thirteen, inspiring her to work toward becoming an elite military officer. At around age fifteen, she finally uses her family’s ranch money to enter the Order of Gixus academy. She must push through a brutal first-year selection process that eliminates the bottom six candidates while facing petty sabotage from arrogant rivals who interfere with her bunk. As the brutal competition narrows down, will Ingefaer earn her place among the elite top six, or will her lifelong vow of revenge slide entirely out of her grasp?

Rene Vecka’s Ingefaer vod Renku: Aere Warrior is a young adult coming-of-age fantasy novel that stands out because it takes the familiar setting of a military academy and infuses it with deep tactical intelligence and genuine heart. Vecka’s descriptive approach shines during the combat scenes, where success depends on realistic footwork, balance, and stepping on the balls of your feet, not the exaggerated, over-the-top sword moves you usually see in epic fantasies. The character dynamics are very impressive, particularly the growing camaraderie between Ingefaer, the wise archer Bjorn, and the unlikely but fiercely determined teammate Knut as they learn to balance each other’s weaknesses during the team phases. It is inspiring to watch Ingefaer transition from a lonely girl harboring her own secrets into a true leader who values compassion and clever thinking over raw brawn. The pacing really keeps you hooked as the exams and physical trials build toward a dramatic, secret testing phase behind closed doors and so much more, setting up an even bigger mystery during her second year. This story is a brilliant start to an adventurous saga. Very highly recommended.
