Keto Cookies by Ellen Branson is a cookbook for those on a ketogenic diet, where traditional sweets are generally off the table. Instead, alternative ingredients are required to maintain required blood sugar and insulin levels in order to effectively shift an individual's metabolism into burning fat instead of carbs. Branson's cookbook is tailored to do just that, with “25 Delicious Low-Carb Cookies Recipes for Weight Loss and Healthy Eating.” With the replacement of items such as conventional flour with almond or coconut flour, and the introduction of sugar substitutes, there is a bevy of delicious recipes ranging from simple vanilla and meringue confections to decadent chocolate bacon and sumptuous cinnamon swirl cookies.

Ellen Branson has done a beautiful job in compiling this book of keto-friendly baked treats. Keto Cookies offers a complete reference with explanations, replacements, the recipes themselves, and a colorful photo of the finished work. I made a family favorite—chocolate kiss cookies—a staple in my best childhood memories for as long as I can remember. In under an hour my batch was baked and my house smelled of buttery, sugary, heavenly goodness. These were better than even Grandma used to make, and it was impossible to tell there were modifications made to accommodate a (gasp!) special diet. There's definitely a demand for recipes to pacify sugar-lovers who are living a ketogenic lifestyle for any number of reasons, but Branson fills the void with a cookbook that is sure to delight the palate and satiate cravings.
