It’s amazing how a four-legged, furry friend (dogs and cats) can help you navigate a path through life's troubles. Countless stories attest to this special bond. In Eleanor Lerman’s King the Wonder Dog and Other Stories, an elderly woman tries to adopt an elderly dog and meets resistance because of her age, even though no one appears at all interested in adopting the elderly dog. But their bond is strong before they manage to adopt each other. Then there’s an artist who creates a graphic novel with his dog as the key character, a consoling tribute to a sweet, strong bond. An artist who survives a trauma is bolstered by a cat and the mysterious trinket from a lonely life. Animals and humans together make an inseparable bond that is both precious and enduring.
Eleanor Lerman’s book, King the Wonder Dog and Other Stories, is an anthology of stories that pay tribute to these wonderful furry friends. Each story is full of love and compassion, companionship and endurance, and the simple reminder that love can, and does, change everything, even if it is a love between a human and their four-legged, furry friend. The author pays tribute to the bond that never falters, and the journey that one takes when interacting with a special dog or cat. The stories are full of life’s struggles, but also filled with hope as one works through this maze of existence to find a deeper understanding of what it all means, and what we all mean to ourselves and to others. This is a powerful and sensitive collection that will warm the hearts of all who read it.
