Legacy of Power: Season 1 by C. C. Bolick is the story of a teenage girl, Charlie Conners, who is dealing with her mother's illness - she has cancer - but is suddenly thrown into chaos when she discovers her mother isn't human. She is from another planet and she came to Earth to escape her old life. She has power and so does Charlie. When her mother dies, it starts off a chain reaction which leads to Charlie being captured by the government. They want to use her special skills, but Charlie is worried about what she will turn into if she gives in to that side of herself. She could become a monster herself, something she is determined to avoid.

C. C. Bolick has written an interesting story with Legacy of Power: Season 1. Charlie is a great character who has to deal with a lot, on top of losing her mother. She has some tough choices to make, but she tries to do the right thing. Learning what she is and what she can do is a complete shock. Though she has always felt somewhat out of place, of course she never could have guessed the reason why. I liked how the author grounded the story in reality with Charlie's reactions being believable and understandable. It was fast-paced and I would read more of the series, or seasons as this book is written in. I think it would appeal to science fiction fans and young adult readers. I would recommend it.

As the first-person narrator, Charlie Conners has plenty to offer as a character. C.C. Bolick’s story has a deep plot, the action is compelling, and the suspense is nail-biting. Enough is given about the premise and subject matter so that the substance is tangible. Charlie, despite being formidable at marksmanship like that comic book antihero Bullseye, still has a convincing reason to pass through the needle’s eye as Bolick makes her face challenges from two worlds. Charlie is understandably shaken by a revelation that catches her unprepared, and she has no choice but to embrace her destiny and do something about it. Legacy of Power kicks off a new series that will take you on a journey with brilliant surprises. As Charlie tries to make the most of her genetically-endowed sharpshooting skills, you will be treated to a whole new must-read young adult adventure.
