Love Poems for Kathy: Green. Laced. Leaves by Jonathan Finch is a collection of poems that will make readers experience all the emotions undergone by the poet during his association with Kathy. The poems are a tribute to the woman he was infatuated and obsessed with initially, and later on ends up disliking intensely. All the poems are well executed with some wonderful imagery and they set the tone and mood for myriad emotions that are all woven around Kathy. The poet exposes his deepest and darkest thoughts to readers and they see the narrator going through these emotions and baring his innermost feelings.
Katharine’s Deceptions and a few other poems after the initial ones glorifying her is when readers realize the author’s hatred of the woman he was once infatuated with. The minimalist tone of writing makes them crisp and effective. The imagery in the poems A Simpleton’s Song, Past, I Take These Green Laced Leaves is sublime and wonderful. The poet makes a connection between nature and his emotions, weaving them seamlessly through all the poems in the collection. The poems are evocative and the word play is excellent, making readers feel the emotions of the poet as they read. I found all the poems engaging and the poet’s longing, infatuation, and dislike for Kathy are palpable to readers. The entire collection is all about Kathy and what the poet feels towards her.
