Maggie Montgomery Races Through Time by Rae Marsh is a fun and exciting tale that follows Maggie, a 12-year-old girl preparing for a district track meet to win a 200-meter race. Maggie wakes up, only to see a pair of orange shoes with a lightning bolt similar to the red ones from her dream. She wears it for her training and notices that she runs faster. Maggie, lost in her imagination, starts suspecting the shoes are magical after noticing a movement on the lace. Her imagination inspires her to create a cardboard time machine as her school project, which she sees coming to life in her dreams. In a dream, a wizard told her that her talent and great performance were a reflection of her hard work and big dreams, not merely magic, teaching her to rely on determination and confidence.

I really enjoyed this book. Maggie is a sweet character with a personality that fits a middle-grade kid perfectly. I love her anxious, full-of-energy, silly, and dramatic nature; it made her such a likable character. This book is insightful and full of morals that will guide our kids and also us as adults. It taught me to always believe in myself, never give up, work hard, and always seek support from friends and family. Marsh's writing is detailed, age-appropriate, and on point. I loved the exciting and friendly tone used. I enjoyed following Maggie's school invention project; her creativity and confidence while building a time machine were plausible. It was really exciting seeing how her imagination came to fruition, just like her courage on the track. I recommend Maggie Montgomery Races Through Time by Rae Marsh to kids and young teenagers who enjoy stories about sports, school life, and big dreams.
