Moneytopia: Earning by Shanshan Peer is a children’s concept book that would appeal most to parents, teachers, and child caregivers who wish to teach children about earning money. Lexie, Zoey, and Chuck are three young animals who go to school in the land of Moneytopia, where money is known as topians, and their weekly homework assignment given to them is to come up with a method of earning 10 topians. Each youngster goes about their assignment differently, yet each one is able to learn and share valuable money-earning knowledge. Are you ready to teach your child about money earning alongside Lexie, Zoey, and Chuck?
Move over Hey Arthur and make room for Lexie, Zoey, and Chuck in Moneytopia: Earning by Shanshan Peer. The book begins with a “this book belongs to …" page, which I really liked as it provides children with a sense of ownership of both the book and the teachings within. The book was filled with adorable animal illustrations that perfectly complemented the story and I quite enjoyed the inclusion of the speech bubbles as it makes the book a more enjoyable read for children. The author did a great job in creating likable characters children could connect with on a personal level. The money-earning methods each child used were both realistic and practical, while the class discussion at the end highlighted the important aspects of money-making for children. Overall, this is a great book for children just starting to learn about making money and the word choice made it both understandable and readable for young children.
