Nemesis: Apex Volume 2 by Tyler Michael is a gripping young adult action novel. This volume chronicles the misadventure that befalls Dustin, Miri, and Riley on their highly anticipated skiing trip to White Peak National Park. Having gone through the arduous process of being granted access to the park that is only open for four months a year, the trio encounters a man, Ranger, blocking their planned skiing route. Despite taking the bribe money, Dustin convinces the reluctant Miri and Riley to disobey Ranger’s instructions. They come across a man near death. Even worse, they become the new target of those who injured the stranger. Thrown into a life-and-death game, will the friends make it out of the mountains alive?
I enjoyed reading Nemesis. Although I have yet to read the first novel in the series, this story felt like the beginning of something new and exciting. Nemesis has enticed me to read more of Tyler Michael’s work. I thought it was a brilliant idea to have the chapter title show time stamps using the 24-hour clock with seconds. Every second counts for everyone involved in this story. The characters are brilliantly written. While I experienced the inner turmoil that Dustin and the other characters wrestled with in their minds, Michael’s writing style still left room for suspense. Moreover, the dialogues were realistic. I can picture this book being easily adapted into an action thriller movie script. Nemesis is a must-read.
