Nick and Clancy by C. C. Jirón is a wonderful tale of nine lives. When Nick survives what should have been a fatal heart attack, he realizes that he’s been given a second chance at life and must grab it with both hands. He’s under pressure from his family to change his life, and he has dreams he wants to fulfill while he still can. A dog doesn’t really factor into things until a runaway Sheltie appears at his door, hungry and thirsty. He can’t turn her away, but can she really be what he needs? As Nick, an avid sci-fi fan who dreams of a multiverse mission, comes to terms with his past and present, he must also focus on the future, and Clancy may just be his saving grace. But is Nick’s mission why she was sent to him? Can she really be the missing piece of his life’s jigsaw?
Nick and Clancy by C. C. Jirón tells the story of a man in need and a runaway dog, and it’s wonderfully heartwarming. The tale is told in the first person but from two perspectives, Nick’s and Clancy’s. Each chapter makes it clear which perspective is being told, and there’s so much humor that it will have you laughing out loud in places. It’s an adventure story with a difference; one man’s mission to live his life to the fullest after a near-fatal heart attack and to achieve his dreams, and it’s Clancy’s job to help him. This is a unique story, with plenty of heart and action. The characters, both human and canine, are likable and easy to relate to, and it gives you some insight into the love that comes from rescuing an animal or human in need. A lovely story, and it even includes book club questions, should anyone choose this as their read of the week. You should; you won’t regret it.
