Chris Lewando's Night Shadows provides a refreshing new perspective into the science fiction realm. I found the story intriguing and enjoyed it from beginning to end. I identified with the characters who are vividly described. I loved that the science fiction elements were different from any that I have either read or watched previously. I enjoyed following the journey of the main character Tom, a gifted stained glass artist who possesses dark tendencies. I found myself rooting for Tom and feeling connected to him as deeply as those who met him within the pages of this book. I sympathized with Helen's plight and felt outraged at the ruthless military actions employed which seem all too realistic.
Night Shadows delves into how people aren't necessarily good or evil, but how they can possess both traits. Sometimes, you judge a person by their position or appearance and make false assumptions about their character. This book surprised me several times with characters acting outside the roles that I had assumed for them. It made me realize I'm as quick to judge as anyone else, although I pride myself on being open-minded. I enjoy reading a book that makes you look within and realize things about yourself; it's a story that sticks with you. Night Shadows by Chris Lewando expertly mixes a dash of intrigue with a liberal measure of the supernatural, adding chilling suspense and a great cast of characters to create a delightful treat. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-written story with originality and believable characters. I'm looking forward to reading more of his works.
