Phantasma by Penelope Reece is about 18-year-old Alphie who thinks she has become haunted when a strange being appears after she messes with a necklace that belonged to her dead grandfather. Alphie has narcolepsy and catalepsy and her memories start when she was six years old. After finding the necklace and summoning the being, Alphie finds herself remembering things that she'd figured long lost. Alphie's memories begin to return and start to make sense when she starts finding answers about her past and what happened to her when she was six. Alphie quickly finds herself in a life or death situation when she discovers that there are others that want the necklace and it becomes a race to see if she'll triumph over those trying to take the necklace from her.
Phantasma by Penelope Reece is simply amazing. The detail and descriptions of events are vivid and put me right there with Alphie while she was experiencing supernatural phenomenon in her search for answers. Penelope Reece throws in plot twists I've never seen before and that makes the book absolutely incredible and hard to put down. Phantasma has a definite and sad ending that feels right for the book and the proper end to Alphie's short but interesting journey. I can't say enough good about Phantasma; it blew me away and was a very enjoyable read. I will definitely recommend it to friends and will be on the lookout for new books from Penelope Reece.
