Jessica Roman-Dell is an amateur paranormal investigator from small town Ohio who wants to find a ghost to prove that life continues after death. She gets her wish when the spirit of a murder victim named Jerry Madison follows her home from a graveyard one night and refuses to leave. He says he’s lonely, and watching the world pass by is more unbearable than death itself. But having Jerry around disturbs her mundane yet peaceful life, including her friends Wayne and Sidney. Unfortunately, Jessica is about to find out that Jerry also has another sinister reason for staying.
Rage’s Echo by J.S. Bailey is a highly intriguing paranormal fiction that would draw you in fast. I absolutely like the premise, one of the story’s aspects that attracted me to read it in the first place. Bailey nailed the pace of the story, appropriately measured and prompted in the right places to give it a good tempo. I liked Jessica right away, and it’s easy to relate to her plight as an ordinary woman who’s trying to make a living with her dream job as a paranormal investigator.
The plot is well developed with great, unpredictable twists. The solid spook factor can sometimes be so subtle before rearing its head when you least expect it. I also appreciated the witty humor that lightens the story’s mood from being laden with afterlife’s gloom. Overall, Rage’s Echo is a great read and you don’t have to be a paranormal fan to enjoy it.
