The book focuses on her accomplishments and highlights the values that shaped her: compassion, service, and perseverance. She didn’t chase the spotlight, but her steady presence and leadership left a lasting impact, especially during times of war and major change. McDoniel captured these moments with warmth and honesty, making the story feel both informative and personal.
What truly made Registered Nurse to Rear Admiral stand out for me was how the writing and photographs worked together to tell Alene’s story in such a personal, powerful way.
