Removal of the President by Peter Van Oossanen is the thrilling final installment of a trilogy that explores extraterrestrial influence on Earth’s politics, focusing on a covert mission to save the world from a corrupt U.S. president. Events take place twenty-six years after the previous book. When a father and son uncover a sinister conspiracy involving congressional blackmail and the president’s secret plans for global domination, they find themselves in a perilous fight for the nation’s soul. The plan to get Congress to impeach the president fails. Meanwhile, Jocelyn, the president’s daughter, is secretly held captive at the White House. As Jocelyn teams up with Sam and his family, they navigate a web of political intrigue, clandestine operations, and technological marvels in an effort to bring a corrupt government to justice.
Peter Van Oossanen is a great storyteller. Apart from the politically charged conflict and the exploration of the corruption of power, the relationship between Jocelyn and Sam kept me turning the pages. It gave life to the narrative, creating suspense and keeping me engaged. The setting spans the United States, from the White House in Washington, D.C., to affluent homes in Los Angeles, and even extends to distant planets like Prime-Even. The characters are well-drawn: Jocelyn, Sam Stanton, and a supportive family, including Leona and Aimee, are characters to remember. Themes of trust, loyalty, and morality are well-handled in this propulsive narrative. Removal of the President felt like a prophetic read and had me thinking about the current US political landscape. It’s a cautionary tale that warns of the dangers of power and greed.
