Rocko, the Christmas Bat by James L. King III is the cute story of Rocko the bat, the Halloween decoration who gets left out when the other decorations are put away. This gives him the opportunity to be there for Thanksgiving and watch all the preparations for Christmas. While decorating the Christmas tree, the kids ask their mom if they can use Rocko on the Christmas tree. Rocko gets to hear why Halloween and Christmas are celebrated. The story makes Rocko want to be part of the Christmas decorations. The ending of the story is a lovely surprise for Rocko.
The story is delightful and readers will love Rocko. The book also explains the importance of Halloween and Christmas in a friendly manner and the concept is unique. It starts with Halloween and through that kids get to learn about Christmas too. It is a heartwarming story and the illustrations add color and life to the story. All the characters come alive with the help of the illustrations. Rocko's transformation is indeed a real surprise. This book will make a good bedtime story because it is not only the story of Rocko, but will also tell young readers about Halloween and Christmas. I would definitely recommend this book for school libraries too.
