Shine, my Heart, my Violinist! A Poetic Journey is a poem that tells the story of the way music influenced a young life. Shine comes from a family who loves music and where everyone can play at least one instrument. When she was given the choice, Shine wanted a violin. Practicing is difficult, and in the case of the violin, there are considerations such as working hours, posture, or fear of failure. Results may take a long time to materialize. The story presents Shine at various stages of her life, showing her gradual growth through music to become a person who has matured in the process. Sarah J. Heidelberg teaches us that music is the language of the heart and that words are not necessary to express our deepest feelings.
I liked Shine's story because it is authentic. Although Shine and her father have their differences, music unites their hearts, and I thought that this concept is beautiful. The world of music is fascinating. Playing an instrument helps to manage negative emotions, and when you become proficient it is very relaxing. Children should be encouraged to take up music. I recommend Shine, my Heart, my Violinist! because it shows how music can build family relationships. Sarah J. Heidelberg reminds us that learning a musical instrument is challenging and requires effort, but is ultimately worthwhile. As Shine shows us, playing an instrument is an endeavor that develops a new way of self-expression.
