The Webheads currently rule the streets of Seattle; they’ve already taken out the Killer Owls, and the Black Widows are trying to muscle in. Brothers Max and Jax Barrow lead the Webheads, but a power play is coming through the ranks that they don’t see coming. Meanwhile, Orlando private investigator Alister Knight is in town trying to solve the murder of police sergeant Valentina Romero. He and his brother Griffin suspect Sapphire Rushland, the undisputed leader of Seattle, is behind it. As both situations reach critical mass, the body count rises, and it doesn’t appear that many will survive. Can Max and Jax protect their gang, and can Alister discover what’s really going on inside the Seattle police force? Find out in Spider’s Bait by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.
Spider’s Bait sits adjacent to Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.’s highly popular Griffin Knight Universe series. And while Griffin himself makes a few cameo appearances in this book, it’s his brother Alister’s story all the way. What I enjoyed most about the book is that every chapter is told from a different first-person point of view. Along the way, the reader gets into the minds of Alister, Max, Jax, PI Xavier Heartwood, and a few surprise appearances. I loved the action scenes and the bloodshed. I’m a fan of high body counts in this style of novel, so I wasn’t disappointed at all. If gangland wars, corrupt police, synthetic drug distribution, and hand-to-hand combat sound like your idea of a good time, then Spider’s Bait is 100% the book for you.
