Stay Safe and Kiss the Babies: Delightful COVID-19 Reflections from 100 Days on a Great-Grandmother’s Back Porch by Bonnie Huber is the author’s account of her life during the pandemic and lockdown of 2020. Huber navigates the challenges of being in lockdown with humor and strength. The author’s observations about life during the pandemic are genuine and filled with encouragement and positivity. Honest and funny depictions are given regarding the roller coaster of emotions that many of us have experienced during this unprecedented time. Huber’s love for her late husband and family is evident throughout this memoir. Each day the author finds something to be grateful for, such as sitting outside on a warm day, and every reflection ends on a heartfelt and positive note. The life experiences and resiliency that Huber shares will provide encouragement to many readers.
Bonnie Huber’s Stay Safe and Kiss the Babies is an uplifting and enjoyable read. There were many moments when I laughed out loud while reading this book and the reflections always cheered me up. Huber has a gift for capturing these perplexing times with wit and compassion. It was interesting to learn about the happy and easier periods of Huber’s life. Her experiences at home and while venturing out into the world are highly relatable. There are many light-hearted memories of life during a simpler time, and also recollections of having lived through challenging times. This perspective gives the reader hope that just as generations before us have faced trials, this difficult time will also be overcome.
