Oh, the good intentions of friends and family! Stealing a Rogue’s Kiss by Amanda Mariel puts Lady Daphne Rosamond in an intriguing predicament because of a fortune told by a gypsy. Daphne must be kissed within the fortnight if she ever wishes to marry. Shy, plump, and with no prospects, Daphne doesn’t see a kiss coming. Natalie and Pippa intend to take her under their wing and teach her how to flirt and lure a man. Disaster and embarrassment seem the likely outcome of a stolen kiss, until she reminds her childhood friend of a pact they made many years ago. Marcus Wentworth, Earl of Clarendon, knew now, just as he did years ago, that he wasn’t good enough for Daphne. He wasn’t about to kiss her, nor let anyone else.
Stealing a Rogue’s Kiss starts out with the reader entertained by the thought of what these girls will come up with to get a man to kiss Daphne. Amanda Mariel packs this short novel with humor and mystery, making the reader rush to find out how the dilemma will unfold. Marcus's determination not to kiss Daphne and to keep every other man away from her makes for a witty problem. She is on a deadline and refuses to detour from her future. The unexpected emotions surprise both Daphne and Marcus, leaving these two in unfamiliar territory. I loved the author’s writing style and found the characters likeable. You may find secondary characters in other novellas by this author finding love of their own. Ending this novella was satisfying and I am expecting more from this author.
