Surviving Summer Camp is an adventure novel for preteens and young adults by Paul Breau. Edward "Eddy" Martin is quite an introverted twelve-year-old. He isn't like his overconfident sixteen-year-old brother, Adam, or his playful little nine-year-old brother, Callum. Eddy doesn't enjoy the outdoors. But after accidentally tearing up a branch of his teenage neighbor Zack's tree, Eddy suddenly finds himself sent to the Sunnyside Summer Camp with his brothers. To make things worse, Zack is one of the head counselors at the camp. Zack does everything in his power to make sure Eddy has a tough time at the camp. When Eddy and his brothers run into trouble after a night hike in the woods, Eddy must find the courage to save his brothers and himself from a terrible fate.

Surviving Summer Camp is a great book for young adult adventure lovers. I was thoroughly captivated by the novel. It felt like a survival story for young teenagers and preteens. The pacing is great, and there is not a single dull moment in the entire book. The best thing about Paul Breau's writing is that he makes his characters seem like actual, real-life people. Eddy, the main protagonist, is your typical introverted middle-grader who would rather spend his time playing video games than roaming outside with his brothers. I liked how Breau made sure all three brothers had distinct personalities, and their interactions were some of my favorite scenes in the book. I also enjoyed Eddy's whole story arc. All in all, it's a coming-of-age tale with a lot of heart, charm, and drama. Young readers will have a blast with this!
