Alec Litowitz’s The Adaptability Quotient: Rewiring Your Mind for Success in the Next Human Era looks at a world where the rules people rely on are changing faster than the instructions meant to explain them. Artificial intelligence accelerates that shift, making adaptability important whenever familiar expertise no longer fits the situation. AQ is the answer offered here, a way of thinking people can practice when decisions must be made without certainty. Judgment gets better when people examine their own thinking, then revise it as reality brings new information. That ability matters beyond individual decisions, since leaders must help groups adapt without surrendering independent judgment. As technology takes a larger role in daily life, the question is how people can keep their agency by adjusting faster without handing over the thinking that remains distinctly human.

Alec Litowitz’s The Adaptability Quotient is a fantastic decision-making book, and a useful tool for readers who want advice they can apply. The writing is direct and easy to use, and I love that the author gives readers examples once the teaching has been explained. Physicist Feynman’s ant experiment is a perfect example, and his testing follows him moving sugar before blocking the ants’ paths to see how they respond. I liked the Bevel example involving entrepreneur Tristan Walker, whose shaving system for Black men with coarse or curly hair changes after testers report skin irritation. It’s obvious that years of experience and exhaustive research have gone into this book. Well written and full of useful guidance, readers looking to elevate their decision-making will adore this.
