Emma loves nature and birds with all her heart. She has an eye-catching red bird feeder in her backyard, which she monitors for her “Backyard Birding” project from a Bird Watching Station. One day, Emma noticed the feeder had no bird food. Puzzled, Emma mulls over this riddle. The bird feeder is on a branch high enough to reach it easily. But somehow, the food vanishes from it every day. Emma checks out the prints on the feeder. She decides to solve the bird feeder mystery. Will she find out where all the bird food has gone? The Big Red Bird Feeder by Priya Ramesh is a delightful read for children from four years of age and beyond.

In The Big Red Bird Feeder, Priya Ramesh tells young readers they can find curious things in their backyards. The book has interesting words, like "pit stops" or "culprit," to expand children's vocabulary and introduce the meaning of metaphors. I appreciated the descriptive language of the book. For example, Priya writes, "As time progressed, the dusky grey colors embraced the skies." This sentence is poetic and shows Priya's amazing writing style. Bright illustrations will help young readers to develop a better color perception. Emma is a wonderful character. She is a young wildlife explorer with a keen eye, a thirst for knowledge, and a love for nature. Emma has a big heart and is not afraid of the dark. Emma can be a great role model for young readers. The Big Red Bird Feeder has a compelling plotline with a twist that will hold children's attention until the end of the story.
