Life is a story. It's amazing how these stories are stored inside inanimate objects like buttons. A tin full of buttons can easily be associated with different items of clothing worn by specific people to which there is definitely a story attached. These stories are sometimes secrets, but they are also treasures, lessons to be learned, and a chuckle or two to share. As the tin of buttons is passed on from one generation to another, more buttons are added, more stories to share.

When John inherits the family tin of buttons, he is not impressed. His wife, Ellen, is thrilled and excited at the prospect of sharing stories. She starts adding buttons and stories and insists on John sharing the stories that he remembers from his childhood. The collection of buttons and stories grows and is shared with their children and their grandchildren. Emily, the granddaughter, takes a special interest in these buttons and their stories. She shares a unique bond with her grandfather, John. Growing up in an abusive home, Emily cherishes the childhood memories of time with her grandfather and particularly the tin of buttons.

Author Ginger Marcinkowski has woven together a fascinating story in The Button Legacy which is almost like a memoir. The collection of stories are interwoven with the unique and diverse collection of buttons inside the tin. This is definitely a memoir with a difference - family stories, secrets, tucked into a box full of buttons. An amazing memoir story all attached to a collection of buttons. Wonderfully done!
