The Campaign by Evette Davis follows Olivia Shepherd, a witch and empath, asked by Diana Chambers, U.S. Secretary of State and presidential candidate, to help with supernatural disturbances impacting her campaign. Olivia’s past involvement in defeating Stoner Halbert, a demonic advisor to Diana’s opposition, makes her a key asset. As Olivia works to uncover the source of these disturbances, she reconnects with William, her vampire mate, and gathers a team of allies that includes Elsa, Josef, and Sabine. They investigate dark forces linked to Stoner, discovering that his growing influence is causing social and environmental chaos. Olivia embarks on a spiritual journey to confront this threat. The stakes ratchet up when Olivia is kidnapped, framed for witchcraft, and put on trial, as animosity brews between magical factions and political rivals.

The Campaign by Evette Davis is a spectacularly intense and wholly engrossing race to the White House. Crisp and immersive writing perfectly walks the tightrope of magical realism and real-world politicking, from werewolves and demagogues to propaganda and betrayal. Davis handles Olivia's complicated relationship with leadership, as well as her strained but authentic liaisons, with care. There is an eerily astute depiction of media manipulation, extremist rhetoric, and political ambition, and the collision with ancestral spirits, ritual magic, and ancient deities. Rather than relying solely on spectacle, Davis roots the story in a deeper, bigger arc. The result is a smart, fast-moving tale that rewards both fans of urban fantasy and readers looking for timely, thoughtful fiction. This may be the final book in The Council Trilogy, but the ending leaves the door wide open for an offshoot, which I hope will materialize.
