The Depths of Marla Adams by Patrick Hanford is a blend of crime thriller and marine mystery. DEA Special Agent Marla Adams is preparing for a well-deserved week-long Caribbean vacation, but SAC Davies abruptly redirects her to the Gulf Coast. The South Padre Police Department is grappling with a dangerous new drug devastating the local community. At the same time, a tiger shark carcass washes ashore with a human shoulder joint found among its stomach contents. Marla dives into the investigation with the help of Sgt. Standish. Then Marla finds her cabin ransacked and a critical file stolen. After receiving threats to leave town, and with another shark turning up containing human remains, Marla begins to suspect a chilling connection between the drug epidemic and the shark incidents, racing against time to uncover the truth.
The Depths of Marla Adams: The Creation of Marla Adams by Patrick Hanford is an intriguing read. I was hooked from start to finish. The story was steadily-paced, and I had enough time to process every detail before moving on. I found myself turning the pages as fast as I could; I was too afraid I would miss something important. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and I could not put the book down. All the characters played an important role in the plot and were realistic. Marla was a strong and determined woman. Nothing would stop her from uncovering the truth. The story was expertly written and held my attention throughout. I enjoyed reading the book, and it stayed with me for a while.
