Fans of David Baldacci will be thrilled with the return of one of their favorite characters, Will Robie, in The Hit. Robie is a professional killer working for the US government. His latest assignment is perhaps his toughest and most risky. He has been ordered to take out Jessica Reel for killing her handler and other associates. Jessica and Robie are equally talented in their profession. Robie doesn’t always takes orders at face value. He knows there is another side to this story. The question is: who is Roger the Dodger?
The Hit is one of those books that you have to finish before going to bed. The action never stops, keeping readers eagerly turning the pages. I like Will Robie and was glad to see him return in this book. I suspect this will not be the last we see of him. We see a different side of Robie in The Hit; we see a man wondering if there is life after being a sanctioned assassin. Can he ever have a normal life with a family? Several other characters return in this book, which gives me hope that we have not seen the last of them either.
David Baldacci never disappoints me! He gives readers twists and turns, and even more important is the high quality of his writing. The ending of this book is outstanding, a deception that rebounds. This review is of the audio format. The two readers were very good: kudos to Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy.
