The Rising Past (The Keepers of the Orbs Book 1) by J.G. Gatewood is a science fiction story that covers many galaxies and time periods. Many years ago, seven orbs were created to imprison an evil wizard and stop his terrifying reign. After a terrible battle, the orbs were scattered through the universe and guarded by the Keepers of the Orb. Their leader, Raythum Stormdragon, notices the orbs are disappearing and weakening the wizard's prison. Raythum's brother is the man behind the deception. When Raythum discovers his brother's intentions, he follows him into the past to keep any more orbs from coming under his brother's control. Raythum needs help from the elves and dwarves to stop his brother from connecting with another orb, but those relationships and friendships between races haven't been formed 130 years in the past.
The Rising Past is a fun, action packed adventure that fantasy readers will really appreciate. It is a well written story with beautifully imagined worlds and interesting characters. I loved the villains in this story, starting with the evil wizard and including Raythum's brother who is trying to free him. I thought these villains were really well written and I enjoyed rooting against them as they were very authentic. On the flip side, the heroes were well written as well and really made this story fun and interesting to read. It gave me someone awesome to cheer for!
