In Fractured Memory by Robbie Sheerin, the year is 2045, and it has been twenty years since the UN and WHO established the Human Preservation League (HPL). HPL was tasked with enforcing a government ban on AI and digital technology. Since microprocessors and CPUs were prohibited and the internet was shut off, the technological landscape now resembles that of the 1970s, with heavy reliance on analog technology. Ben Carvers, a Boston detective, recently woke up from a coma with amnesia. Despite the memory issues, he believes he is well enough to start working again. He is tasked with solving a homicide. The case seems to progress to a double homicide. Moreover, Carvers finds evidence of political and police corruption. This forces him to wonder who he can trust. Once he realizes that his memory problems are more severe than he thought, he is not sure he can trust himself. Will Detective Carvers be able to solve the case and bring the perpetrators to justice?

Fractured Memory by Robbie Sheerin is an intriguing story with a thought-provoking setting and a memorable protagonist. The author did an awesome job of setting up a murder mystery plot with some very interesting twists. I like that sufficient information was provided to allow me to try to solve the case myself. The story is very well-paced. At times, the suspense built up and made me want to read quickly because I was dying to find out what happened next. On the other hand, some funny portions made me slow down and enjoy the humor. All the dialogues were very realistic. In my opinion, this helped immensely to flesh out the characters. Ben Carvers is a great detective, and I would love to see him engage with other cases. I highly recommend this novel to everyone.
