The Rules of Courtship by Kasey Stockton is a Regency romance in an era when societal norms and personal desires often clashed. The novel centers around the two protagonists, Ruth and Oliver. They are both determined to find suitable partners and, being lifelong friends, make a pact to help each other find the right person. But as soon as they seal their agreement, the chemistry between them becomes palpable, and before long they realize that they both have feelings for each other. A dramatic turn is taken when Oliver finds out a long-kept family secret, one which may destroy the possibility of any romance between him and Ruth. Will they overcome this obstacle or will their true feelings for each other never see the light?

Kasey Stockton offers a strong female protagonist in The Rules of Courtship, one who challenges the conventions of her time and stays true to her principles. She would much rather marry for love than a title. Oliver is a handsome and charming young man who places Ruth's happiness above his own. His internal struggle with duty and desire forms an integral part of the novel. The themes of friendship, romance, and courage are explored through Ruth and Oliver's relationship. Other characters keep the story interesting and lovers of romance novels will not want to put this book down until the very last page is read. The author created a perfect balance between engaging romance and gripping drama. This novel is well worth the read.
