The Tempter's Bane is Part Two of The Drifter’s Road series by Kyle McCurry, following the disbanded group after the defeat of the goblins. They have been traveling as best they could, only slowed down by the injuries of their leader, aiming to reach the mountains and find the hammer and the anvil that open the door to the mountains. Adroegen has led the team as best he could, but he eventually falls over a cliff. Things get complicated when Caitren is captured by men of the war-mongering and evil Vyroun. While Gleowan and Vaenn search for Caitren, Kattalin and Edelbir are on a quest to find Adroegen, their leader. War looms ahead - can they be reunited and successfully enlist the help of the dwarvish kingdom?
This is a well-plotted epic fantasy. The setting itself feels like a character in the novel; the unfamiliar and unfriendly landscapes with cliffs, dark forests, and natural elements that stand in the way of the characters are just a few things that will fascinate readers. The imagery is strong and readers can see, in their mind’s eye, images of The Dead Forest and the Silver Mountain. Kyle McCurry creates a tale that is gripping, following characters who are desperately searching for answers while being pursued by enemies. The characters are rock-solid and it is interesting to watch each of them go through their unique ordeal. Apart from the key characters, readers will encounter dwarves, goblins riding on wolves, and other kinds of creatures. Kyle McCurry’s prose is lyrical, soaked with dazzling imagery. The plot is twisty, and the characters are fully drawn and memorable. The Tempter's Bane is a delightful read for fans of epic fantasy.
