The Third Thaw by Karl J Hanson is a science fiction novel that revolves around a trio of young adults who are sent out to complete a task that might be too big for them. In a story set on a planet called New Eden, a group of young men and women are being trained to leave behind the only home they have known and try to re-establish human civilization. Adam and his friends are the Third Thaw and there is a lot riding on them. The First and Second Thaws were unsuccessful in completing their mission, but the hopes and dreams of human civilization are riding on the Third Thaw. However, their work is cut out for them as a similar team sent from Germany years ago believes that they are the perfect beings and no one can take their place. Anyone who gets in their way has a heavy price to pay. But this time, Adam and his friends are far more resilient and intelligent than the previous Thaws. What will happen now when these two groups meet?
Intense, fast-paced and action-packed, The Third Thaw is a perfect mix of science fiction and young adult fiction. The story and the characters are so believable that it is scary. The author did a great job not only in creating relatable characters but also in making them memorable. From the get-go, the author kept the pace and ensured that I was interested. By the time I read the third novel, I was too invested to even think about setting the book down. The little nuggets of details the author left for readers to find made this a great puzzle to solve. At first glance, the easy to read narrative might seem like nothing special, but the more you read on, the more you realize that you have a gem in your hands. I am hoping that Karl J Hanson has more in store for Adam and company! What can I say, it was incredible!
