David M. Gutknecht has developed a Bible study that will take you through the Bible in a year and open your eyes to the truths in the Bible and help you apply it to your lives and memorize scripture. His study is titled “The Word By Steps: A Biblical Guide to Spiritual Growth and Purpose” and is designed as a workbook with space for your own thoughts to be included as well. The book is divided into thirteen sections, with each section covering four weeks. However, it goes even further with having specific readings for each day of the week as well. Each day there is a reading from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. The author includes specific things to think about while reading, as well as ideas and tips for sharing what is learned with a study partner or group.
Deciding to study the Bible in detail can be overwhelming! However, this study is not overwhelming at all as it is a user-friendly design and broken down by each day. One of the features I like the best is the information that is shared about each book of the Bible before starting to read each book. The background information provides additional awareness that helps the reader to really get into what is happening and being shared in each book of the Bible, leading to a more in-depth understanding and growth. I also like the amount of space that is provided for the reader to write his or her thoughts; I like this better than having a separate journal as it is very convenient to look back over it at a later time. This is definitely a worthwhile study to use if you are looking to grow spiritually and spend more time in God’s word.
